Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

Overview

HiveBook ("the App") is built with privacy as a core principle. The App is designed to work entirely offline, and your apiary data stays on your device. This policy explains what data we collect (very little) and how we handle it.

Data Storage

All your apiary data — hive records, inspection logs, treatment history, harvest records, queen management, expenses, equipment, and reports — is stored locally on your device using an on-device database. This data is not transmitted to our servers or any third-party service.

Data We Do Not Collect

AI Features

HiveBook includes AI-powered features such as daily apiary briefings, health anomaly detection, harvest predictions, and an apiary assistant. These features run entirely on your device using on-device machine learning models. No data is sent to external AI services for processing.

iCloud Backup (Optional)

The App offers an optional iCloud backup feature. If you choose to enable this, your data is backed up to your personal iCloud account, which is managed by Apple under their privacy policy. We do not have access to your iCloud backups.

Subscriptions

HiveBook offers in-app subscriptions managed through Apple's App Store. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not collect or store your payment information. Apple may share a transaction receipt with us to verify your subscription status.

Device Permissions

The App may request access to your camera (for receipt scanning and hive photos), calendar (for inspection and treatment reminders), location (for local weather and apiary mapping), and photo library (for attaching photos to records). These permissions are optional, requested only when you use the relevant feature, and data accessed through them stays on your device.

App Lock

The App offers an optional biometric lock (Face ID / Touch ID) to protect access. Biometric data is handled by your device's secure enclave and is never accessible to the App.

Third-Party Services

The App does not integrate with third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. The only external service interaction is with Apple for subscription management.

Children's Privacy

HiveBook is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Data Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control. You can delete all data at any time through the App's Settings, or by deleting the App from your device.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
